She has made significant strides in the past year, far more than doctors expected. Now she's about to get some significant help. here is her story in her own words
My name is Crystal Black and I live in Lexington, SC. I am a single mother to a six year old little boy named Drake. And I have always been a very independent person. On July 4th, 2009 I sustained a C-6 complete spinal cord injury from a diving accident. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, photography, being outdoors, sporting events and helping others. A much-loved service dog could help me gain much more independence back, and help me to feel much safer at home alone in case I fall and need help. The dog will be able to pick up items I drop; which is quite often. The dog will also help me get up hills or ramps, open doors, turn lights on/off, and go get help if I need it. With the help of a service dog I know I will be able to be more independent.
